JAZZ PIANIST MIKE JELLICK & DRUMMER DAVID ZWOLINSKI LIVE IN CONCERT - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH - 7:00 P.M.
We warmly welcome the gifted duo of Mike Jellick & David Zwolinski to the Mangia Mangia concert stage.
Born in New Delhi, India, and raised in Livonia, Michigan, Mike Jellick is one of the most sought-after pianists in the Midwest. Mike's entrance into the world of music began with private classical training at just two years old, which continued with unstoppable momentum through his college years. Through his classical studies, he eventually was enrolled and invited into many classical performing and composing competitions -- the earliest being "The Ann Arbor Bach Festival" - where he was placed in the winners' circle every year from age 4 through high school. In addition, he entered and placed well in many concerto competitions - which resulted in the priceless experience of performing and touring with various symphony orchestras across the United States. During that time, his musical explorations took him into the world of many other wonderful genres, where he finally realized his love for jazz.
Mike is equally well known for his writing, arranging, and teaching, all of which have been consistently shown through numerous performances at various institutions and venues throughout the U.S. Citing a constant need to grow through actively composing, he has been awarded several commissions by groups ranging from smaller private schools to larger corporations - most notably, Lincoln Center. He holds a B.A. of Piano Performance from Eastern Michigan University, where while finishing, he spent time directing their jazz combo's alongside then-director of the EMU Jazz Orchestra, Mike Hall, as well as the first year with the current director, Don Babcock.
Currently residing in the Detroit Metro area, Mike has enjoyed spending time touring, on stage, and/or in the studio with the likes of Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, Wes Anderson, Stanley Jordan, Ron Blake, Vincent Chandler, Marcus Belgrave, Christian McBride, Sean Dobbins, Jesse Palter, and countless other notable musicians. Mike has his own private studio teaching both jazz and classical theory and performance. He can be found at high-end venues in Detroit such as The Dirty Dog Cafe, Cliff Bell's - and many more.
Joining Mike is the talented David Zwolinski on drums. David is a jazz student at Wayne State University, where in addition to his studies, he can be found sharing the stage at many of the same Detroit jazz clubs alongside artists such as Mike Jellick, Paul Keller, Russ Miller, and countless other gifted players.
Don't miss a chance to hear this outstanding jazz duo!
